Description
I had in my possession a very old bread cutting board with a hole in the middle for hanging. This was used in a family of a neighbor, maybe more than 50 years (you can see the cuttings in the back of the panel). I really loved the idea of painting on it, recycling this old board.

I 've applied gesso on it and used the egg tempera technique to make a study, based on a masters ( afavorite Amedeo Modigliani) work. At the end, I 've applied a layer of shellac and two layers of varnish for extra protection and shine.

I hope my experiment was successful and that you can enjoy and love this work as much as I do.

It measures 5.9 x 12.2 inches (or 15 x31 cm)"

varnish eggtempera wood

A small, family workshop in Crete. We paint religious icons by employing the egg tempera technique, the traditional -and almost ancient- method of byzantine iconography. We particularly enjoy working on beach wood driftwood and repusrposing materials no longer in need with our brushes!
