ABOUT VINTAGE VINYL EMPORIUM

****************************************************

When I first started out with my venture, I had planned on reselling vintage vinyl records to collectors. As I started to amass collections of records, I found myself setting aside thousands of records that were damaged just enough that I couldn't sell them as playable records. There was a point where I could barely walk into the room where I was storing those records, and that's when I was forced to make a decision on what to do with all the extra vinyl that I had.

These records were so cool with the artwork and the labels on the record... a relic of the days when music was mystical and owning the vinyl album was sacred. Once an album is taken out of circulation, it’s gone forever. There was no way that I could bring myself to getting rid of them at the city dump. Not to mention, there is no good way to recycle the materials, so they'd just rot with all the rest of the landfill waste. I had to figure this out and fast! I spent more and more of my time brainstorming on what I could do with all of these unplayable records and less time cataloging records for resale. Eventually, I put a hold on reselling to focus on figuring out what to do with the growing problem that I had.

I saw that other people had some pretty cool ideas with taking records and making wavy bowls and other crafty ideas, but I was more in love with the album artwork and I didn't see many people with a focus on that. So I wanted to incorporate the album art into whatever I was going to make as much as possible. I spent weeks prototyping and experimenting with reshaping the vinyl into bracelets, barrettes, necklaces (many different items) and joining those shapes with carefully selected pieces of album art to adorn and compliment the shape and style of the vinyl items that I had created. I finally got to the point where I was excited about a core group of products that I created, so I decided to stop focusing on reselling collectible records and went full-blown into vinyl record upcycling. It seemed so right to me for so many different reasons.

I'm now preserving music history by using my creative side to make items for others to enjoy while keeping these beautiful vinyl records out of our landfills. Seriously, how does it get any better than that?

I really hope you enjoy what I'm creating. Please keep checking back for new items. If you have a suggestion for a product, please leave me a comment or start up a conversation with me."
