A MAKE-MAKE original design -
HAIRPIN SHELF-SHELF is a rustic industrial ladder-style bookshelf made from local reclaimed old growth wood and bent steel.
Bookshelf measures 66” high x 32” wide.
Shelf measurements: 6”, 8”, 10”, 12”, 14”.
SHELVES are made from rough sawn reclaimed wood hand selected by the artist from Firewood Farms, an urban salvage and mill located in Half Moon Bay, CA. Firewood farms sources all of its wood from within 200 miles and is dedicated to green business practices.
Shelves are sanded and finished to feel smooth to the touch while intentionally leaving and highlighting each board’s unique patina and marks of time such as sawmill marks, nail holes, or raw edges.
Redwood shelves are pictured here, but other wood may be available depending upon sourced materials available at Firewood Farms at the time of your order. Boards that bear evidence of original barn paint may also be available. Please indicate a particular color or type of wood you are interested in when placing your order, and I will do my best to match it. You may also contact me before placing an order to discuss what’s available.
LEGS are made from 3/8” steel bent to form a hairpin design that serves as both the feet and supports for the bookshelf. The steel is finished with clear matte enamel unless tung oil or beeswax is requested.
HAIRPIN SHELF-SHELF was inspired by the color, texture and weight of actual 1”x12” reclaimed old growth redwood dimensional lumber found at Firewood Farms while exploring their inventory. Partnered with the delicate and modern curve of the hairpin leg, this beautiful and rustic wood creates the perfect ladder-style shelf.

Each MAKE-MAKE piece is born from a deep love for wood and a life-long enchantment with the simple mechanics of joinery. From rustic modern furniture to salvaged kitsch art objects to retro wooden toys, each MAKE-MAKE original is inspired by the materials I find around me and the ways in which they long to connect.
