Description
Although Greek in origin it is an image that applies to all people from all races-A young, beautiful mother with her baby- A moving image of tenderness and devotion.

As a basis beach wood, was used that was caressed by the sea in a beautiful beach of my island; Crete. It has been specially treated, then gessoed and then painted with several layers of powder pigments and finally varnished. The dimensions of this recycled, reused repurposed beach wood are (approximately) 14x6x3 cm or 5.51x2.36x1.18 inches

The painting was inspired by a work by Marc Chagall; a dreamy and very sentimental artist that I enormously admire. "

varnish eggtempera wood

A small, family workshop in Crete. We paint religious icons by employing the egg tempera technique, the traditional -and almost ancient- method of byzantine iconography. We particularly enjoy working on beach wood driftwood and repusrposing materials no longer in need with our brushes!
